Animals

In early 2004, Debbie was asked to paint a pet cow on an organic vegetable farm in Wexford. The small-hold farm was home to a young Heifer named “Beef.” Having made the trip down to meet “Beef,” she was immediately struck by how calm he was. These paintings represent a type of art that works on an emotional level rather than in a cerebral or intellectual way.

“I think we sometimes underestimate the importance of the relationships we have with our pets. They can be as complex, challenging and ultimately rewarding as any human friendship. It’s a great privilege to be asked to paint someone’s animal and something I take very seriously. It’s much more than arms and legs and tail. It’s all about expression and personality.”
